I'm a 3rd generation miner, both Dad and Grandpa were Coal miners!

What do you find most rewarding about your job as a miner?
Running a front end loaders for sure. Just over a year ago I started running a LeTourneau 1850 and I also now run a 994k. Loading trucks is by far my favorite thing to do on a mine site!
What are some of the challenges you face regularly in your work, and how do you address them?
Having to adapt to changing situations/environments. Just be patient take things as they come and if it's an unfamiliar situation, ask for help or guidance if needed.
Are there any particular skills, qualifications or advice that are essential for someone interested in becoming a miner?
I would say having a strong work ethic. I entered the mining industry as a contract janitor not even being employed by the mine I was working at. I eventually got hired on with that mine and worked my way up to a blaster. I believe a strong work ethic and perseverance will take you wherever you would like to be in the industry.
How do you see the future of mining evolving, and what opportunities or challenges do you anticipate?
I see a lot things switching to autonomous, but I also believe there will always be a need for skilled operators.
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
Be with my family outdoors, camping l, and traveling.
