Shain Hass

Nipper

How long have you been mining and what type of Miner are you?
I have worked for just under two years underground at the Lucky Friday. My Grandfather, dad, step dad, uncles and brother all worked as hard rock miners. I started in maintenance the first year. I was able to earn a bid as a nipper

What is your favorite thing about mining?
My favorite part of working underground is that I get to do what most people don't have a chance to do. I work hard and I know when I get paid I earned it.

Do you have any routine hacks, productivity hacks, or mindset hacks that make your job go better?
I just turned 40 and coming up for a Miner position soon. My best advice I can give any beginner is it's never too late to start if you have drive and ambition. My only regret is not starting sooner.

What are the 3 to 4 most important things in life for you? And what order do you prioritize them?
What's important to me is my family, wife and kids. I have no problems giving my all for them to have a good life and hard rock mining is a way to provide them a better life.

Who is one of the biggest mining influencers that you know of?
My biggest influences are my Grandfather who raised his family off of mining, my step father who is a tank and always on the straight and narrow, my shifter Greg Reed who saw the potential in me to give me this opportunity, my Miners Brandon and Tyler who have spent the time teaching me and all of C crew at the Lucky Friday who have given me any help and an opportunity to show I can hang even if I am twice their age. I drilled out my first 4 faces this last week and it was awesome.
