Tell us about your mining journey:
Started out as a nipper, worked my way up in mining uranium for 8 years, and got laid off and work in a gold/silver mine then did shaft mining for a few years, then when back to hard rock tramping all over the country and overseas, have done pretty much everything in mining, from mining to construction, rehabbing, timber raises, shaft rehabbing, scrams drifts, slusher scrams, block and piller, pulling pillers, jumbo driving drift, development, mining, incline, decline, expiration, long holing, jackleg mining, rail mining, raise bore, elmack, tunnel diversion, portaling in, etc...
What led you to a mining career?
My dad was a miner, it's in my blood
How do you stay alert and keep safety top of mind?
My brothers and I all go underground together and it's very important we all come out at the end of shift together, nothing else matters, God, family, Miners and everything else. My safety is to myself and to my brothers, everything I do is 100% that we are looking out for one another 💯 🙏
What advice would you give a miner just starting out?
It's a different world underground, be aware of your surroundings and if you don't know ask, if your are confused ask, if you are not sure don't do it, if you can't handle it tell someone, be safe take care and remember to speak up if you don't understand.
What makes or breaks a job's success from your experience?
It's mining anything can happen, miners always make a way no matter what. It's not what will break us it is what will make us stronger together to accomplish the situation for success and ensuring our part for the next shift, we are MINER STRONG 💪 !!
Do you have any routine hacks, productivity hacks, or mindset hacks that make your job go better?
My family is who I do this for, no hacks just plain and simple, be positive and make every move count.
What is one thing you wish more people would know about mining?
They need US !!!
Travel and get lost to myself and enjoy life in all types of ways I can no matter what it is in life at that moment and time
I have been a few and lucky enough I survived and I'm still here to live and tell about them, just lucky.
