What type of Miner are you? How long have you been mining and where are you currently mining?
Hard Rock.10 1/2 years Frontier Kemper Constructors Oakwood VA

Tell us about your mining journey:
Started mining coal in Pennsylvania at Dana Mining Co 4west mine, 4 years there. Then worked 2 1/2 years at Arch Leer Mine. Then worked about 2 1/2 years with Frontier Kemper Constructors doing shaft and slope work. Started working at the mine we sank shaft for, Allegheny Metallurgical, worked there for 1 1/2 years. Then decided that the hard rock mining world sinking shafts was the place I really enjoyed to be so i returned back to them 3 months ago and I’m now a walker (foreman) for them.

What led you to a mining career?
Was probably the best most high paying job in the area I grew up in and seemed like an atmosphere I would like.

How do you stay alert and keep safety top of mind?
Always think of what you choose this career path for, to take care of your family and loved ones, and pets at home. Have to make it home safe everyday.

What advice would you give a miner just starting out?
Work hard, show up for work everyday, ask questions, be observant and always work safe.

What makes or breaks a job's success from your experience?
The morale of the work force based upon the way their boss or company treats them.

Do you have any routine hacks, productivity hacks, or mindset hacks that make your job go better?

Work hard, be safe, and get the job done the easiest quickest most effect way possible

What is one thing you wish more people would know about mining?
It’s plays a very important role to this country’s success whether it be coal mining, or any other type of mining.

What's Your Favorite Thing to Do Outside of Work?
Hunting, restoring vintage axes and hand tools
