What led you to a mining career?
Actually my brother got me to leave college to come to Tennessee to start mining.
What's your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Spend time with my family and fish
What advice would you give a miner just starting out?
Take time to listen. You don’t know everything, learn every job you possibly can to make yourself as valuable as possible. Always show up with a positive attitude.
What makes or breaks a job's success from your experience?
Planning and communication. A well planned job is a lot easier to execute.
What is one thing you wish more people would know about mining?
“If it can’t be grown, it must be mined.” Mining gives us all the luxuries we enjoy on a daily basis without realizing. There are actually around 40 different metals and minerals in a cell phone.
How do you stay alert and keep safety top of mind?
Always check the work areas thoroughly, several times. Conditions are always changing.
