What type of Miner are you? How long have you been mining and where are you currently mining?
Started off in salt over 15 years ago and now do contract mining. Currently working at the NNSS as a safety manager with MES mining.
What led you to a mining career?
What led me into mining was a government layoff throughout the USPS.
Probably the biggest misconception that I’ve personally encountered had to do with mining salt underneath Lake Erie and inundating the mine with lake water. Plenty of ground in between them!
If someone questioned if they would like mining, do you have any advice on questions they could ask themselves about their personality etc. that could help them have a better sense of if they should give it a try?
I’d probably say reconsider your life’s choices first off, but if it’s something that truly interests you, thick skin and a little compassion goes a long way.
If there was one thing you could change about the mining industry, what would it be?
Work & life balance I feel is extremely important, mining inherently is a dangerous profession and having that balance is key to keeping yourself focused on the task at hand.
What is one fun fact about you?
I’m a rock drummer. So on days off I try and hook up with my brothers and jam out! Earth Rocker 🤘
