The pride that comes with being a miner. And all the badass skills I've learned along the way.

What are some of the challenges you face regularly in your work, and how do you address them?
The schedule can be hard on my family. But we try to make the most of the days I do get off.

Are there any particular skills, qualifications or advice that are essential for someone interested in becoming a miner?
You need to be dedicated. You can't be deterred when you make mistakes. Because that's how we all learn. It's not an industry like any other. These skills are singularly relevant to this job.

How do you see the future of mining evolving, and what opportunities or challenges do you anticipate?
I'm worried about the future of underground coal mining because of the shifting economy and political rivalries.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
I enjoy hiking and fishing with my wife and children. Spending time in the sunshine. Because I see the sun and my family less than the light of my cap lamp.
