What led you to mining?
I’m a 4th generation coal miner. It’s in my blood. It’s what I was made to do.
What do you find most rewarding about your job as a miner?
The ability to keep my guys safe so they’re able to make it home to their families each day
What are some of the challenges you face regularly in your work, and how do you address them?
Having to make crucial decisions on the spot. I address them by figuring out the safest way to do it
Are there any particular skills, qualifications or advice that are essential for someone interested in becoming a miner?
Working hard, making sure safety is your top priority, and having common sense
How do you see the future of mining evolving, and what opportunities or challenges do you anticipate?
The mining industry is just having to evolve with the new technology and era. It’ll always face challenges, but ultimately will be around for years to come
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
Spend time with my wife and our 6 month old son, who I hope will want to follow in my footsteps and be a coal miner as well
